Hiring a nanny to help with sleep – either yours or your baby’.s. Finding a reliable nanny is a primary concern for working mothers in the United States.

As per the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 5.6 million working moms in the United States, and around 51 percent of women who gave birth to their first child returned to work within four months.
In record numbers, families are turning to nannies as a solution for their childcare needs. As well as their sleeping needs.

Hiring a nanny is a serious commitment, and many U.S. parents use a mutual “nanny contract” to lay out clearly the terms and conditions of employment before the hiring process is complete.

One of the biggest causes of nanny turnover tends to be parents who make unexpected, and, for the nanny, unreasonable requests in the form of extra hours or chores. On the other hand, parents are often dissatisfied with nannies who ask to invite overnight guests, make long distance phone calls, and want to use the nanny car for personal errands.

Good communication is the most important part of the parent-nanny relationship. Parents and nannies who communicate well provide a nurturing environment for the children together, which is, after all, the point of hiring a nanny to begin with. A detailed and mutually satisfying contract is the first necessary step towards making this relationship work.

A functional nanny contract contains a detailed statement outlining the nanny’s responsibilities and goals for the children’s growth and progress. It should state the nanny’s salary and pay dates, along with any deductions for applicable taxes, social security, and health insurance.
Some other issues you may find in a nanny contract are:

• Overnight care-how often it is expected, and what additional pay will be provided per hour.
• A detailed travel schedule for the year that includes when the nanny is expected to leave town with the family, what provisions will be made for the nanny’s comfort while traveling, how many hours of work will be necessary while out of town, and what additional pay will be provided.
• An agreement concerning the nanny’s mealtimes, and what food items will be provided for the nanny in accordance with his or her dietary needs.
• An agreement concerning the children’s dietary needs and what meals the nanny is expected to prepare.
• Rules for use of the nanny car, including provisions for automobile insurance.
• A schedule of regular meetings between the parents and the nanny to encourage ongoing communication.
• How sick days will be handled.
• How many vacation days the nanny will get after an agreed on period of work.

A detailed, comprehensive nanny contract is especially important if the nanny is hired on a live-in basis. A fair contract will ensure that everyone concerned gets the most out of the loving care a nanny provides to the children.

And a good nanny, who either lives in or stays over night occasionally, will be well worth the money, so that everyone in the family gets nights of good quality sleep.

Sleep apnea is just one of several common sleep disorders and the most widespread form of sleep apnea is known as obstructive sleep apnea and is a condition marked by periods in which breathing ceases while sleeping. On occasions this disorder is called obstructive sleep apnea syndrome or sleep apnea syndrome.

In healthy people the muscles which work the upper part of the throat ensure that the air flow in and out of the lungs is steady and continuous. During sleep these muscles relax a little but still do their job properly. However those people who have sleep apnea often have airways which are narrowed so that when the throat muscles relax the airway partially or completely closes thereby no longer allowing for the passage of air to the lungs. Snoring and labored breathing resulting in a sleep apnea episode will then result.

In some individuals breathing can also cease completely during periods of deep (or REM) sleep and medical experts and researchers are nor clear about just why this happens. These periods during which breathing ceases can last for ten seconds or more in severe cases and are referred to as apneic events or sleep apnea episodes.

These apneic events result in a degree of awareness that you have ceases breathing and you subsequently struggle to breath again which is normally accompanied by choking, gasping or even snorting.

Thereafter it is normal to settle into a period of light sleep before the cycle of sleep apnea episodes starts again.

The effect is that an individual suffers from fragmented sleep which does not allow them the amount of rest that they require on a nightly basis. This in turn leads to a number of health problems including excessive daytime tiredness. One of the reasons for this daytime symptom is simply that the level of oxygen in the blood stream falls tremendously during an apneic event leading to a condition known as hypoxia.

It is most important to realize that a lot of individuals with sleep apnea are unaware that they have a problem and often it must be left to others to point out the problem. Sufferers are generally aware of being very tired throughout the day but do not always know why this is so.

The commonest warning signs of sleep apnea include loud snoring, waking in the morning and still feeling tired, headaches in the morning, problems with memory, alterations in personality, falling asleep at inopportune times, hypertension, excessive levels of activity (in children only) and swelling of the legs in severe cases. The symptoms ought not to be disregarded because the danger of sleep apnea is very real.

The first step in diagnosing sleep apnea ought to a visit to the doctor who will read through your medical history and examine your mouth, throat and neck for signs of any growths or abnormalities. If your doctor suspects that you have sleep apnea he will refer you for a sleep study and what is called a polysomnogram (or PSG). This test records eye movement, brain waves, breathing rate, muscle activity, oxygen levels in the blood, heart rate and the quantity of air that is being both exhaled and inhaled during sleep.

Sleep apnea is an all too common sleep disorder which frequently goes unrecognized but which can be very dangerous and which can also normally be effectively treated.

Understanding what can cause you to snore is the first step in curing your snoring problem. There are quite a few different causes of snoring, each of them treatable in different ways.

Snoring is, generally speaking, brought about by insufficient airflow in the back of the nose and mouth, specifically in the area where the soft palate and uvula come in contact with the upper part of the throat and the back of the tongue.

When these tissues make contact, they vibrate which results in the sound of snoring.

Lack of muscle tone in the throat and tongue are one reason people snore. If the muscles are too relaxed, they can cause the airway to become restricted, which causes blockage and ultimately snoring.

Since alcohol is a depressant, drinking can relax muscles to a point that causes snoring. If you stop drinking around four hours before you plan on going to sleep, you will be able to reduce the possibility that you will snore.

Other depressants that produce similar results include antihistamines and sleeping pills.

Obesity can lead to restricted breathing by leaving deposits of fat on the throat and neck and thus is another leading cause of snoring.

Some allergies bring about snoring, especially those associated with congestion of the nasal passages, since such blockage makes it difficult to breathe and can cause an individual to snore.

Nasal decongestants are a better option than antihistamines when it comes to dealing with allergies because the latter are a potential cause of snoring. When it comes to nighttime allergy relief, try to use primarily decongestants in order to prevent both allergy symptoms and snoring.

These are a few of the more common causes of snoring. Whether one of these problems sounds like it might be what is causing your snoring or not, it’s best to discuss the problem with a health care professional to get their informed opinion.

In this article, we’ll review some tips on helping a person fall asleep. How long does it take for a given person to fall asleep? That might depend on a number of factors, including what the person ate before they went to bed, how tired the person is, and numerous other factors. If you have sleep problems, it could take what seems like hours to fall asleep.

Insomnia Information: Insomnia means you are having a great struggle to go to sleep. It also can mean that staying asleep is difficult. Most people who struggle with insomnia say that they remember turning and tossing all night long or remember being awake at night. Nights when I have insomnia I just can’t seem to turn my mind off and often can’t even close my eyes. Normally it takes me about a half hour to fall asleep; but my son is asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.

The TV helps me fall asleep — I have it on a timer and it shuts off after 30 minutes.I also require total darkness, and my bedroom must be ice cold – even in summer. Of course, this does not help save energy!

There are treatments for insomnia referred to as natural, or behavioral. One relaxation techniques is practiced by tensing different muscle groups and then relaxing them. Another method is repeating a set of visualizations to produce a state of relaxation. My favorite visualization? Lying in the sun on a beach in the Bahamas.

It is also good to be able to manage the stress in your life, as this will allow you to more easily relax at night and when it’s time to go to sleep. Another helpful method is to associate the bedroom with sleeping and only sleeping, by limiting the time spent in the bedroom for non-sleep activities. So take your TV, office, and computer out of the bedroom. Also reduce the use of stimulants such as caffeine and avoid large meals just before bed as this can help reduce insomnia. One can also try soaking in a hot bath to relax, or listening to soft music before going to bed.

Melatonin is a sleep aid. It is especially helpful for people who suffer from insomnia caused by jet lag or shift work. Melatonin occurs naturally in the body when serotonin is exposed to a lowered quantity of light.

Other common over-the-counter sleep aids such as Sominex or Nytol can also be tried by adults but, again, a person should discuss with their doctor before taking any of these sleep aids especially if you suffer from Parkinson’s disease, or are being treated for depression or other mental health problems. But it is also buying into the mindset of turning to a pill to solve a problem, which can give rise to problems in other areas of a person’s life. More insomnia info at bestinsomnia blog and how to stay asleep during the night.

It is advised that if you have trouble falling asleep and have tried all the natural tips in this article, then perhaps you should see a sleep therapy specialist. So many people have sleep complications, there is now a sub-specialty in medicine for such problems. Since insomnia might be a symptom of other medical problems, it is best to get a consultation with your doctor and discuss your sleeping problems with him.

Even with all the tips on falling asleep, each person must discover their own best way to fall asleep.

Do you know how we spend around a third of our lifetime, which on average equals between 20 and 25 years? Well, it is none other than sleeping. But that is not all – your waking hours can also suffer as a result of poor sleep.Bad quality sleep is bad for all aspects of your life, and the root of the problem is the quality of your bed.A good bed is one that make you feel great.A mattress that is too soft is bad for your spine and it will not support it properly.Mattresses that are too hard will make you feel very uncomfortable. If you suffer from a bad back, go for the harder one rather than the softer option as the harder type provides better support for your back.

There are some rules here that you need to observe. Avoid as much as you can on mattresses that are woolen as they are high maintenance and need to be turned once a week. If you prefer foam mattresses, choose a good quality one, in natural latex if possible and at least 20cm (8 inches) thick. If you choose a mattress with springs, be sure to check exactly how many there are.The more spring there is the better support there is for the body. The range can be of anywhere between 200 and 2000 different brands.

It is prefered that you choose a base with interconnecting slats.Such design provides the most comfortable and efficient option. It adapts to the shape of your body and your movement during sleep easily.Try not to sleep with your head too elevated too.Your cervical vertebrate might be damaged.Go get a ergonomic pillows that are designed specially to support your spine.

So, go choose a comfortable bed for yourself. No more sleepless nights

Sleep apnea is possibly the most commonly seen sleep disorder and affects in the region of 18,000,000 Americans. A sleeping disorder which is characterized by interrupted breathing while sleeping, it is also without doubt the most dangerous of all sleeping disorders because it starves the brain of critical oxygen and occasionally proves fatal.

There are two very different types of sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is essentially a neurological condition in which breathing is broken because of signals sent out by the brain. Obstructive sleep apnea is essentially a mechanical problem where the windpipe is obstructed either by too much tissue or as a result of the unusual collapse or relaxation of the muscles around the windpipe. In both cases however the results are effectively the same with repeated interruptions to the breathing that starve the brain of oxygen and place sufferers at greater risk from such things as high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.

Regrettably, diagnosing sleep apnea can be difficult because snoring, which is one of its commonest symptoms and frequently leads to sleep apnea being called the snoring disease, is also often seen as a symptom of various medical conditions. Snoring is certainly normally present with sleep apnea as the brain counters a lack of oxygen by awakening the sufferer sufficiently to restart breathing and this usually produces snoring.

This frequent awakening throughout the night also results in a poor quality of sleep and it is quite common for sleep apnea sufferers to get up in the morning feeling even more tired than they were when they went to bed. This also results in a feeling of sheer exhaustion during the course of the day and an overwhelming wish to sleep.

However, tiredness resulting from a poor quality of sleep is just part of the problem and a variety of other symptoms will also generally be seen including headaches in the morning, a lack of memory and a problem in maintaining concentration.

Left untreated the increasing exhaustion from sleep apnea can lead to major psychological difficulties starting with simple tetchiness and moving on to depression with clear changes in both mood and behavior.

Both obstructive sleep apnea and central sleep apnea can be treated and, provided the problem is diagnosed at an early stage, treatment can often be fairly simple. For instance, mild cases of obstructive sleep apnea caused by nasal congestion can generally be treated with nothing more than a course of decongestants. Likewise, many cases of sleep apnea which are not too serious may be treated with the use of a mask that is worn during sleep and that delivers air at a constant pressure in order to keep the airway open. Lastly, in the most severe cases surgery might be necessary and can be very effective, although it may also lead to numerous complications and must be considered with care.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember about sleep apnea is that because it carries the potential risk of respiratory failure sufferers ought not to be tempted to use sleeping pills or to take other types of artificial sleep enhancers without first seeking the approval of a doctor.

Natural sleep remedies can without doubt provide an effective complement to prescribed treatments and herbal remedies which are designed to improve both the duration and quality of sleep can be helpful in the management of the excessive daytime sleepiness often brought on by sleep apnea. Also, such things as chromatherapy, aromatherapy and guided relaxation and meditation can help in reducing the anxiety and insomnia that come with sleep apnea.

If you’re experiencing insomnia on a regular basis, you’re probably ready to give anything a try that might let you get to sleep. However, it’s important that you do your research so you understand how various products work.

The number one thing a lot of people do if several nights of insomnia is causing daytime sleepiness is visit the drugstore for an nonprescription solution. Sleep aids might help at the start, but they don’t address the underlying reason for the condition.

A sleep aid should not be utilized as a fix for insomnia. It could assist you at first, yet you need to ascertain the reason why you’re experiencing sleep problems. For your long term health, you don’t want to have to rely on medication to help you sleep at night.

Lots of people get hooked on medications and aren’t able to fall asleep if they give them up. Other people experience unpleasant side effects, or they end up with complications because of the way it interacts with their prescriptions.

Antihistamines, a familiar remedy for allergies, is a common ingredient in over the counter sleeping aids. They make you sleepy and help to make sure you remain asleep. Some people experience drowsiness the next day, which might interrupt your natural sleep cycle. Side effects could include constipation, dizziness, memory loss, blurred vision, and dry mouth. If you become dependent on them, you will require increasingly larger doses to get the benefits.

The doctor might give you something more potent such as a non-benzodiazephine. This helps you feel sleepy by stepping up the natural chemical process of your brain. Using a sleeping aid for ongoing insomnia relief is generally safer than using over the counter remedies; but it can lead to dependencies.

It’s uncommon these days, but your doctor could prescribe a tranquilizer if your insomnia is serious enough. This causes drowsiness by slowing your nervous system. This is a short term solution that could lead to feelings of grogginess the day after.

Your physician might think that the best treatment for you is a prescription for anti-anxiety or antidepressant meds that will act as a sedative. These are common, but don’t have the same possibilities for addictivion as other prescription drugs.

If you want to avoid the medical choices and select something more natural, you could look at an herbal remedy for your insomnia. There are herbs that have been shown to encourage a good night’s sleep, such as chamomile, which is often served up as tea.

Melatonin, valerian root and SAMe are also considered to be effective herbal insomnia treatments. Be sure you take the correct dosage, since too much of a good thing can sometimes lead to uninvited side effects.

If you’re one of the nearly two thirds of adults who experience back problems, you fully understand the challenges of even the simplest of tasks. Walking, bending, sitting for long periods of time, and even sneezing can cause agonizing back pain. And since back problems are among the most difficult medical problems to diagnose, back pain often lingers for years, or even decades.

While it’s bad enough to deal with chronic back problems during our waking hours, loss of sleep due to back pain is an even worse fate. While there’s no magic wand to cure your back problems, the good news is you’ll find you can improve or prevent a lot of back problems by adopting back-friendly sleep habits.

Even though you may get 8 full hours of sleep, if you have chronic back problems, chances are you still awake non-refreshed. This may very well be caused by your sleeping posture and alignment. Proper posture and alignment are just as important when we’re asleep as awake. Your back problems may even be caused by your sleeping posture.

How To Ensure Proper Sleep Alignment

A key factor in getting a good night’s sleep and reducing back pain is to make sure you have proper sleep alignment. This means sleeping in such a way that there’s no added pressure on your back or neck. It doesn’t matter in which position you like to sleep – what is most important is aligning properly to take pressure off your back.

Simply adding a memory foam pad to your mattress is one such solution. Memory foam pads rest on top of your mattress and are designed to gently conform to your entire body, thereby removing pressure from your lower back and neck. Similarly, a contoured “lumbar (spine) pad” provides continuous lower back support and helps compensate for less than ideal sleeping surfaces. Also, countoured pillows function in much the same manner, preventing neck and back pain by conforming the head and spine into proper alignment.

There’s a good chance your back pain is aggravated or even caused by how you sleep. You can greatly reduce or even eliminate your back pain with inexpensive, ergonomic solutions like memory foam pads or countoured pillows. Of course, it’s also important to add healthy habits to your life like non jarring low impact exercise. Pilates are extremely effective in helping back problems. Added together, these simple solutions can greatly improve not only your sleep, but your overall quality of life.

If the snoring is soft, only occasionally and doesn’t wake your partner this may be considered nromal. However, Heavy snoring is NOT normal. In fact, it’s often a sign that something is wrong with you physically that needs a doctor’s attention. And, you’ve probably noticed that your partner is being far more cranky than usual. You need to consider taking some advice on how to stop snoring.

Check Out Your Lifestyle

Smoking, drinking and recreational drugs that act, as sedatives will make you snore a lot more than if you didn’t use them. Reducing or quitting smoking, drinking and taking recreational sedatives, you will not only stop snoring, you will benefit your health in lots of other ways. Another benefit is the amount of money you will save, by stop smoking, drinking or taking recreational drugs. Now that we’ve got the most practical stop snoring advice out of the way, let’s go on to more.

Try Sleeping On Your Side

Partners of people who snore tend to find that by poking their snoring partner and getting them to sleep on their side or stomach tends to reduce the amount of snoring. Its seems that people snore less when sleeping on their side or stomach compared to them slleping on their back. Consider this stop snoring advice. A simple trick to help you not sleep on your side is to sew or tape a tennis ball in to the back of your pyjama tops. This will encourage you NOT to attempt to sleep on your back. Be sure you are healthy enough to sleep on your side or stomach, though.

Keep Your Mouth Shut

The most extreme stop snoring advice, which I personnally have never tried, was something seen on BBC News – tape your lips together to keep from snoring. To snore your mouth must be open. Before considering this option you have to be sure your nasal passages are clear and that your lips are tucked into your mouth before your use the surgical tape.

See Your Doctor

All snoring is due to your airwaves becoming obstructed for some reason. Usually, this is because in deep sleep all of your muscles go so lax they rub up against each other. But you can also snore because of a physical deformity or from a physical growth. The only ways these can be cured is through medical intervention.

Sleep apnea is one of these and could be quite dangerous, affecting your entire quality of life. This is where you momentarily choke and wake up when you are in deep sleep and start to snore.
